“Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.’ ” – Genesis 41:39-40

11 a. How did God bring Joseph and his brothers together? There was a famine in Canaan, where Jacob and Joseph’s brothers lived. They know that Egypt has grain, and Jacob told the brothers to go to Egypt to buy some grains.

b. What are some reasons Joseph’s brothers might not have recognized him? They were not expecting Joseph to be a high official in Egypt.

12. How did Joseph respond to his brothers, and why might he have treated them so harshly? Joseph did not see Benjamin; he could make them bring Benjamin to him.

13. a. God controls the past, present and future. How is this truth evident in this passage? God, in God’s own timing, can use this gathering to restore their relationship.

b. How does this bring comfort and encouragement to you? Whether the situation is unfairly treating in our eyes, God’s time and purpose tend to be good for us.
