Jacob’s sons avenged the defilement of Dinah

“So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, ‘Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.’ ... Then they set out, and the terror of God fell on the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.” – Genesis 35:2, 5

6 a. Describe the motivation and actions of Simeon and Levi in response to the sin against Dinah. To make them go through circumcision, and later attacked them while they are recovering,

b. What were the consequences of these sins? (See also Genesis 49:5-7.) Death, for they have killed men in their anger.

7. a. What are negative and positive ways people respond to tragedy or crisis? Revenge, self-doubt, depression, alcohol, drug. Surrender and seek God.

b. What should you consider when you are tempted to take matters into your own hands in response to hurts imposed by others? (See Romans 12:17-21.) Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.. Let God deal with the person.

c. How do you know what God is specifically calling you to do when the sins of others are causing damage? Seek the counsel of others.

8. What lessons can be learned from this crisis in Jacob’s family? God wasn’t in the picture within this crisis. Wasn’t God part of their lives? Didn’didn’t seek God? The sin of the father can be transient to future generations.
