“So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, ‘Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.’ ... Then they set out, and the terror of God fell on the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.” – Genesis 35:2, 5

Questions

3. How did Jacob’s sons initially respond to Shechem’s treatment of Dinah? Why? Verse 5 When Jacob heard that his daughter Dinah had been defiled, his sons were in the fields with his livestock; so he did nothing about it until they came home.. Jacob has been avoiding conflict?

4. a. How did Hamor and Shechem try to justify and make amends for Shechem’s actions against Dinah? Shechem has his heart set on Dinah. Intermarry with their daughters, settle, live and trade with them.

4 b. How did their proposal threaten Dinah’s dignity and the identity of all Jacob’s family? (See Genesis 24:1-4; 28:1-4; Deuteronomy 7:3-4; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18.) Dinah is up for trade.

5. a. What cruelty or evil in the world today particularly bothers you? Corrupted authorities, who sought to gain and caused sufferings.

b. How should you think, pray and respond to the pain and destruction of evil in our world? This world is broken, no choice, can only look for God.
