Jacob and Esau reconciled

“Then the man said, ‘Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.’ ” – Genesis 32:28

Summary of Genesis 33

Jacob and Esau met. Esau ran to meet him, embraced him. They wept. Esau did not want those gifts, but Jacob insisted. Then they separated, Esau started on his way back to Seir, and Jacob will follow at their own pace.

Questions

13. What does the reunion of Jacob and Esau reveal about each of them? Initially, they both wanted Isaac’s blessing, and Jacob wanted Esau’s birthrights. But now, Esau does not want those gifts, and Jacob wanted to give Esau good gifts.

14 a. Where did you expect Jacob to go after parting from Esau? Genesis 31:3: The Lord told Jacob to go back to the land of his fathers and relatives.

b. Where did he actually go? (See Genesis 31:3 and 35:1.) He went to Sukkoth.

15. Do you have a broken relationship in your life? How is God using that challenge to grow your faith? With my sister. Not sure.
