The Lord was with Joseph as he served faithfully in Potiphar’s household

“When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant.” – Genesis 39:3-4a

Questions

3a. Examine Joseph’s rise from being purchased as a slave to working as Potiphar’s overseer (39:1-6). What challenges did Joseph face, and what do you learn about him? He was given the responsibility to manage Potiphar household. Joseph can be trusted to the point that Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care.

b. How do you see God’s work, and what do you learn about Him? God found favor in Joseph and blessed Joseph in everything he does and everything he manages.

4. a. What tactics did Potiphar’s wife use to tempt Joesph (39:7-18)? In verse 7, his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”.

b. How could Joseph’s example help you resist temptation or face pressure? Joseph understood sin (How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?), and flee from it (he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house).

5. Is there a situation in which you need to take a stand for righteousness that pleases God? What might your courage cost you? No gambling (even during festive seasons or peer pressure). Lesser interaction with close friends. Left out for gatherings.

6. What truths about God help you when you are suffering or under pressure? Eventually, God is in-charge. It is well with my soul.
