Summary of Genesis 15:7-21
Genesis 15:9-10, 17 describe the ceremonial rites that sealed a covenant.
Continue from the previous conversations, Abram asked God how he will know if he will gain possession of the promised land and son. God wishes to make a covenant with Abram and instruct him to bring the animals. Abram obeyed and did what God has instructed.
It probably took a while, and he might have waited for God for a while until he fell asleep (or God made him fell asleep). Then, God appeared and spoke to him, a prophecy of what will happen.
The smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared that symbolizes God’s presence. And passed between the animal pieces, that symbolize God swore by Himself to fulfill the covenant.

What truths about God’s character and Abram’s faith are revealed? God revealed himself who brought Abram out of Ur, a deliverer. Abram call on God, Sovereign LORD. Abram wanted to confirm his faith, God instructed, and Abram believes and acts according to God’s instructions to bring the animals.
List prophetic promises in 15:13-16 and say how each was fulfilled. Genesis 25:7-8 - 7 Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years. 8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people.
. Exodus 6:11 - "Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country."
. Exodus 12:40 - Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years.
How do you reconcile God’s affirmation of Abram’s belief (15:6) with Abram’s continued questions? The smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared that symbolizes God’s presence. And passed between the animal pieces, that symbolize God swore by Himself to fulfill the covenant.
