God Judges With the Flood but Favors Noah

“God said to Noah, ‘I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.’ ” – Genesis 6:13

The Cadence of the Curse – Genesis 5

Chapter 5 describes each generation’s family records and knows that this family keeps God’s knowledge throughout the generations. We know this as it is mentioned that Enoch walked faithfully with God. Also, Noah’s father, Lamech, remembering God during Noah’s birth. God uses people to keeps the knowledge of him on earth through time.

Sin’s Corruption on the Earth – Genesis 6:1-7:10

In contrast to Genesis 5, Genesis 6 describes a world of human wickedness, and God’s judgment to wipe them out. Amid a sinful world, Noah was found to be righteous in God’s eye; he was chosen to be part of God’s plan. Certainly, God was upset about humanity and their sin; God is holy, and his judgment on sin must happen. But yet, at the same time, we see God’s perfect and uncompromised love, grace, and mercy; when God chooses Noah to accomplish His plans. Noah was faithful and obedient; he did all that God had commanded him.

God’s Condemnation through the Flood – Genesis 7:11-24

The rain began to pour, and the entire earth was flooded. God’s judgment on sins will happen in his time. All creation, including plants and animals, suffered the tragic effects of sin, and the outcome is death and destruction.
