Jacob’s deception was revealed, but his blessing from Isaac stood despite Esau’s demands

“Isaac trembled violently and said, ‘Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came, and I blessed him—and indeed he will be blessed!’ ” – Genesis 27:33

Summary of Genesis 27:30-41

As soon as Jacob left Isaac, Esau came to Issac with the meal. Then, he realized that he had just blessed Jacob. Isaac accepted God’s will and confessed God’s blessing to Jacob would stand – “indeed he will be blessed.” Esau cried and asked for blessings, but Issac can’t do anything. He cannot revoke the blessings he gave Jacob. In the end, Esau intends to kill Jacob.

Questions

10. From Genesis 25-27, how do Esau’s words and actions begin to fulfill God’s prophecy to Rebekah?

“Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”

11. a. What is the difference between regret and repentance? Regret is a feeling of sadness or sorrow over something that was done. Repentance goes beyond regret. Repentance is turning from your sin and toward God. Repentance is the want to make things right again.

b. Which describes Isaac and which describes Esau in this passage? (Give verses and phrases to support your answer.)

Issac realized that God’s plan had succeeded his plans and he repented by not going further on his own plans (to bless Esau):

Isaac answered Esau, “I have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine. So what can I possibly do for you, my son?”

Esau regreted and blame Jacob for stealing his birthrights and blessings:

This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing!”

12. When you have faced an outcome that could not be changed, what truth about God or specific promise from His Word challenged or encouraged you?

Trust His Heart

All things work for our good
Though sometimes we don't see
How they could
Struggles that break our hearts in two
Sometimes blind us to the truth
Our Father knows what's best for us
His ways are not our own
So when your pathway grows dim
And you just don't see Him,
Remember you're never alone
God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
So when you don't understand
When don't see His plan
When you can't trace His hand
Trust His Heart
Trust His Heart
He sees the master plan
And he holds our future in His hand,
So don't live as those who have no hope,
All our hope is found in Him
We see the present clearly
But He sees the first and the last
And like a tapestry He's weaving you and me,
To someday be just like Him
God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
So when you don't understand
When don't see His plan
When you can't trace His hand
Trust His Heart
He alone is faithful and true
He alone knows what is best for you
God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
So when you don't understand
When don't see His plan
When you can't trace His hand
Trust His Heart
When you don't understand
When you don't see His plan
When you can't trace His hand
Trust His Heart
