Family information from Shem to Abram was recorded

“The LORD had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you.’ ” – Genesis 12:1-2a

Summary of Genesis 11:10-32

Genesis 11 recorded for us the family line of Shem to Abram. Linking with Genesis 5, we can connect the generations back to Adam. We also see that these generations lived a shorter life compared to those named in Genesis 5.

Then, scripture recorded the people surrounding Abram, his father, his brothers, and their wives, and their children. We were also introduced to Sarai, Abram’s wife, who was childless and was not able to conceive.

Questions

List the repeated phrases in 11:10-26. What do they teach you about Shem’s line? Like in Genesis 5, the repeated phrases are became the father of and lived __ years and had other sons and daughters. God sustained these people throughout the generations.
